A West Bloomfield man was uninjured after discovering a fire in his basement, the cause of which remains under investigation, the reports.
The homeowner at 6287 Pinecroft was getting ready to go to sleep when he smelled smoke at 12:52 a.m. Friday and realized a fire was burning in his basement, WBFD Fire Inspector Byron Turnquist wrote in a release Tuesday.
Fire crews from nearby arrived within minutes of the call to find the homeowner safety outside and the home with heavy smoke and fire conditions in the basement which were quickly spreading to the first floor. Crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire.
"The West Bloomfield Fire Department would like to remind everyone that it is important to have working smoke detectors throughout your home," Turnquist continued. "Should you discover a fire in your home, quickly exit the home and call 911 from a safe location."
