Son charged with breaking & entering after mother reports jewelry theft

Bradley Melton, 24, is in Oakland County Jail after unlawfully entering his mother's West Bloomfield house, police said.

According to Police Lt. Tim Diamond, Melton's mother was at the police station Thursday to report the theft of $6,100 worth of jewelry from her home between July 12-23 — after she had kicked out her son — when someone called to report that Melton was at her house.
Officers reported to the home and arrested Melton for unlawful entry. Melton pleaded not guilty to one count of breaking and entering at 48th District Court on Friday and was being held on $10,000 bond.

Diamond said larceny charges are pending investigation of the jewelry theft.

Art show quiet but for protest

Diamond said there were no arrests or accidents related to the Orchard Lake Fine Art & Craft Show over the weekend. However, he said, there  was a dispute between event organizers and opponents of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder about the right to protest at the corner of Daly and Powers roads.

“The event organizer asked if they were within their rights to protest there, and as long as they weren’t impeding traffic, it’s OK,” Diamond said. “It’s a public street, after all.”
