River Rouge Officer Shoots Armed West Bloomfield Man During Traffic Stop

The 49-year-old, who was stopped for erratic driving, is in serious condition at Oakwood Main Hospital.

A 49-year-old West Bloomfield man is in serious condition and a River Rouge Police officer is on administrative leave, following an early morning shooting in River Rouge.

WXYZ-TV reports that the the man emerged from his vehicle holding a gun, after police stopped him for driving erratically near Jefferson Ave. and Cora St. According to the report, "The River Rouge Police Chief says the officer feared for his life. It is unclear if the driver directly pointed his gun at the officer."

The Detroit News reports the West Bloomfield man was taken to Oakwood Main Hospital, and the Michigan State Police Department is investigating.
