American Community Survey Provides a Snapshot of West Bloomfield Area

A portrait of community life in the Greater West Bloomfield area in an up-to-date profile is available online.

The U.S. Census Bureau released the 2007-2011 results from the American Community Survey on Thursday. Information about the Greater West Bloomfield area is available through the American Fact Finder portal on the Census website.

The survey, which is conducted annually by the U.S. Census Bureau, provides current information about a community. The bureau intends for the results to guide policy decisions and funding allocations from state and local governments.

"By telling the story of our towns and neighborhoods, the American Community Survey helps planners locate schools and firehouses," said Thomas Mesenbourg, the Census Bureau’s acting director in a press release. "Thanks to the cooperation of the public, the Census Bureau produces reliable, quality statistical information for even small communities in the U.S. That’s why it’s so important for households that are selected to participate in the ACS to respond."

in Keego Harbor:

• 43.7 percent of households are married couple families.
• 89.5 percent of residents drive to work alone.
• The mean travel time to work is 27.2 minutes.
• 33.2 percent of civilian employed residents over 16 years work in management, business, science and art positions.
• 22.7 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years work in service positions.
• 5.6 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years are self-employed.
• 21.2 percent of households earn between $50,000 to $74,999.

in Sylvan Lake:

• 48.0 percent of households are married couple families.
• 87.4 percent of residents drive to work alone.
• The mean travel time to work is 24.8 minutes.
• 55.8 percent of civilian employed residents over 16 years work in management, business, science and art positions.
• 13.1 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years work in service positions.
• 6.5 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years are self-employed.
• 14.5 percent of households earn between $50,000 to $74,999.

in Orchard Lake Village:

• 70.6 percent of households are married couple families.
• 88.7 percent of residents drive to work alone.
• The mean travel time to work is 26.3 minutes.
• 57.4 percent of civilian employed residents over 16 years work in management, business, science and art positions.
• 6.4 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years work in service positions.
• 5.6 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years are self-employed.
• 38.9 percent of households earn over $200,000.

in West Bloomfield:

• 63.3 percent of households are married couple families.
• 87.7 percent of residents drive to work alone.
• The mean travel time to work is 27.4 minutes.
• 54.9 percent of civilian employed residents over 16 years work in management, business, science and art positions.
• 9.5 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years work in service positions.
• 6.9 percent of civilian employed residents older than 16 years are self-employed.
• 21.3 percent of households earn between $100,000 to $149,999.
