Township Board Expects to Levy Full Millage Rate

The decision whether or not to implement the full public safety millage tax rate for winter and spring taxes will happen Nov. 28.

In , West Bloomfield residents voted to allow for a 2.85 tax millage increase, but whether or not that full amount is levied on winter and spring taxes for next year is up to the Township Board of Trustees.

The board is required to either pass next year's operating budget prior to Dec. 1 of this year, or hold a public hearing for those interested in voicing their opinion on the subject on which they've previously voted.

At Thursday's special board meeting in , the board unanimously voted to hold a public hearing at its meeting Nov. 28, immediately prior to an agenda item regarding the 2012 budget, which must be passed by Dec. 31.

Treasurer Teri Weingarden said afterward that she is confident the board will vote to levy the full millage increase for those taxes.

"We actually currently do not levy the full amount that we’re allowed to legally," Weingarden said. "If our financial situation should change in future years, we might not levy the full amount. ... Next year, we definitely need the money."
