What's Happening with the Traffic Light at Ealy Elementary?

The light could remain flashing for up to a year, as school officials determine what to do with the property on Maple Road.

West Bloomfield Township Supervisor Michele Economou Ureste said Monday that she plans to meet with the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) executive director to talk about a traffic signal at Ealy Elementary on Maple, between Orchard Lake and Middlebelt Roads.

Township Police Chief Michael Patton said township, school and RCOC officials recently met to discuss the traffic signal at Ealy, which became a flashing yellow/red light when school permanently closed in June. Ureste said the school officials originally wanted to remove the light, but changed their minds.

"I'm grateful that the light is there," she said. "I believe a great number of residents do want it functional."

Patton said RCOC officials confirmed at the meeting he attended that the light would remain flashing for up to a year, as school district officials decide what to do with the property.

Trustee Lawrence Brown said  the traffic light was originally at another intersection (which Ureste clarified was Tamerlane Drive and Maple) and suggested it could be moved back to that location.

Ureste said her discussion with RCOC will also include a traffic signal at the Franklin Corners subdivision.
