YouTube Video Features West Bloomfield Program for Students with Special Needs

Students with special needs learn through internships at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

Project Search, an internship program for young adults with special needs, is featured in a video uploaded June 4 to YouTube, a social media sharing site.

All activities take place at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, where interns are assigned to work in jobs that rotate during the year. Other partners include West Bloomfield Public Schools, New Horizons and Michigan Rehabilitation Services. Three students participated in the program over the past year.

Christina Campbell, a department supervisor at the hospital, said the program has been a "mutual benefit" for everyone involved and has been a learning experience for her as well.

"Project Search has inspired our department to continuously grow and learn from the interns," she said. "Each student has brought unique talents and abilities to our department ... Every intern we've worked with has had a positive attitude and has been willing to step outside of their comfort zone to achieve more than they achieved the previous day."
