The Berman Center for the Performing Arts Announces the 2013-2014 Season

The Berman Center for the Performing Arts announces its 2013-14 season, which includes a diverse collection of classical music, drama and comedy, film, dance and appearances by leading stars of Broadway, film and television.

The season’s opening performance in October will feature an “orchestra of voices,” Chanticleer, which will grace The Berman stage while celebrating its 35th anniversary. Named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America in 2008, the Grammy® Award-winning ensemble Chanticleer is praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for its “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity.” Based in San Francisco, Chanticleer is known for the seamless blend of its 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz.

The Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel, set to appear at The Berman in February, was founded in 1950 and has become the focal point of musical life in the north of Israel. Under the baton of Maestro Noam Sheriff, one of Israel’s most versatile musicians, the Orchestra is embarking on it’s first-ever tour of the United States.

Gallim Dance is dedicated to creating and performing original work by Andrea Miller, building the careers of young artists and inspiring the imagination of a diverse international audience. The New York-based company hosts year-round education and performance programs for both dancers and non-dancers and will appear on The Berman stage in March.

Also coming to The Berman in March, Molly Ringwald became a teen idol for her roles in “Sixteen Candles,” “Pretty in Pink” and “The Breakfast Club.” At age 44, she released her debut album, “Except Sometimes,” a collection of jazz and American Songbook standards, which she will perform live with her band.

Nathan Gunn has made a reputation as one of the most exciting and in-demand baritones of the day. He has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Paris Opera and Teatro Real in Madrid, among many others. He will be joined by pianist Julie Gunn, his wife, on The Berman stage in April.

Additional events include children’s films and events, programming in HD and a film series including such classics as Lady & the Tramp, Cinderella,  Singin in the Rain, My Fair Lady and Funny Girl.

Inspired by a gift from Madeleine and Mandell Berman, The Berman Center for the Performing Arts is a 600-seat theatre that opened in the spring of 2011.  More than 20,000 guests already have attended events at The Berman.

Each and every month at The Berman Center for the Performing Arts will offer the audience the sounds of the most extraordinary music, theatre and programs for every taste.  Ticket and additional information can be seen at www.theberman.org or by calling the ticket office at
248-661-1900.
