School Thanks Eagle Scout for Gift of Benches

Pleasant Lake Elementary honors Walled Lake Central grad Connor Lund, who built the new Outdoor Classroom last summer.

Pleasant Lake Elementary recently recognized 2013 Walled Laked Central graduate Connor Lund for building and installing seven benches in front of the school as his final requirement in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

The project focused on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which the school is currently teaching students. Lund was recognized by Pleasant Lake Elementary during a June 10 ribbon cutting celebration.

Lund finished his project last summer and said this was a way to give back to the school.

“It feels great to complete this project for PLE. The school has done so much for me, it is great to do something nice for them,” said Lund.

The benches create an area, now called the Outdoor Classroom, where students can learn and experience the outdoors. Each bench will have a plaque outlining one of the habits, with credit to Lund for his hard work.

Nayal Maktari, principal at Pleasant Lake Elementary said, “We saw this as a great opportunity to provide an additional space for our children to use as an outdoor classroom for our Leader in Me classroom and mentor meetings. Thanks to Connor this project will benefit countless students and staff members for years to come.”
