West Bloomfield Students Invite Community to United We Walk

The 20th anniversary event will be held Jan. 19, 2014.

Student co-chairs for the township's United We Walk event, which celebrates its 20th anniversary on Jan. 19, 2014, appeared at Monday's West Bloomfield school board meeting to extend a community invitation.

The theme for the 2014 event, which commemorates the birthday of slain activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is "United We Remember, Celebrate, Act!".

Speaking in turn, West Bloomfield High students Rachel Warnicke, Sara Nirenberg, Marcus Brooks and Nick Foster told officials that WXYZ-TV news anchor Carolyn Clifford will keynote the program at the school, following a 3 p.m. march on Orchard Lake Road, led by the West Bloomfield High drum line.

The program will also include performances by high school, middle school and elementary school students, recognition of world and community leaders, candlelight vigil and a community dinner.
