Lakers' Brathwaite, Eaglets' McInnis Commit to Offers

West Bloomfield High School senior C.J. Brathwaite and Orchard Lake St. Mary's senior Spencer McInnis will both play football in the Mid-American Conference.

A pair of local, high school senior football players are headed to play college ball in the Mid-American Conference on scholarships after verbally committing this week.

Scout.com reports that senior tailback Spencer McInnis, who helped lead the Eaglets to the Division 3 State Championship in November, will play at Miami (OH), while senior tailback C.J. Brathwaite, who finished with five touchdowns in one game against Royal Oak, has committed to Kent State.

, but told ESPN.com on Jan. 18 that a coaching change led to his verbal committment being revoked by the new regime. Lakers head coach Ron Bellamy commented afterward, "I told (Brathwaite), you just have to go where your heart is."

Brathwaite will go much closer to home, where a MAC schedule virtually ensures that his new team at Kent State will collide with McInnis' Miami team at some point.

The signing period for football players nationwide is scheduled to begin Feb. 1.
