30 Days of Giving, Day 24: The Detroit Shoppe

While shopping this weekend don't just shop local, shop for charity too!

This is part of a 30-day series of ways Patch community members can give back this holiday season. We hope you'll take part in this 30 Days of Giving and take the spirit beyond the holidays, because there truly is need all year long.

Get something and give something at the same time

During the holidays, the in Troy, as well as its hundred or so stores and restaurants, attracts thousands of shoppers every day. One of the mall's hidden gems is — a unique experience for any shopper. The store, found on the second floor of the mall, functions as part retail store, part Detroit museum.

Detroit and its history can be found in everything displayed and for sale at the Detroit Shoppe — from Detroit sporting goods to items from Fox Theatre, to Detroit-made products like Sanders and Better Made Snack Foods.

Among the items for sale are calendars and cards that benefit the . Sales from various other items also benefit Detroit-area nonprofits, such as the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries and Forgotten Harvest.

If you have a history buff or a Detroit lover on your Christmas list, the Detroit Shoppe is a great place to shop while also giving back at the same time.
