This harridan should have been disbarred, and held for obstruction charges after the Vince FosterRead More affair. She had his office sealed. She broke the law.She did not have the authority to do that. She was a do nothing Senator, and an incompetent, criminally negligent Secretary of State.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
"The Black Panther of Poetry" April 23, 2014 at 01:58 pm
Fair is Fair!!! Now if we can only get Affirmative Action totally out of such sports as BasketballRead More and Football and the Music industry, to name a few, which African-Americans are by far the most innovative and talented and who very essence has kept it alive so that others could thrive and benefit from. The minorities in these financially lucrative areas of our society is truly and obviously inferior but yet is given a shoe in because there race promotes, finance and overly spectates in these Professions by default in a sense because they have the "wherewithall" to do so because of centuries of discrimination and also present discrimination and Social Stratification.
Jeanne April 23, 2014 at 02:09 pm
Wouldn't the fairest admission to University be judged completely by scholastic ability ? ThatRead More would mean not accepting students because of sex, color, class, ethnicity, or prior connection to the school. The college population might become a little "lopsided," but wouldn't the result be more intelligent young people to go on to graduate school ? America, and the general public would benefit because in our midst would be the best scientists, doctors, instructors, etc. for us to call upon ? Our country would become stronger still, which seems to become more urgent with every passing day.
Kevin April 23, 2014 at 02:24 pm
Black Panther, the music industry? Really? You consider a bunch of misogynist, foul mouth rappersRead More "innovative and talented"? Where do you live?

Mr Murphy, thank you for your service. We are deeply indebted to men like you. My dad flew in theRead More eighth Air Force as well. I'm happy to read your story. I'm glad those involved were able to resolve our unpaid gratitude.Thank you sir for a job well done.

A convicted killer went on an hour-long tirade in which he blamed others for his fate during his sentencing Monday before Judge John Hulsing, who threatened to silence him with duct tape. (Screenshot: WZZM video)
Lee Jacobsen April 23, 2014 at 04:12 am
Duct tape keeps the world together. Both of those low lifes deserved duct tape, and a lot moreRead More misconfort. We always seem to forget the victims. Both killers should be hung from their necks with duct tape....they don't deserve life.
K. Scott April 23, 2014 at 08:44 am
Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver.
Mr Rogers April 23, 2014 at 11:40 am
I'd give the ofender a choice: duct tape or stun belt. (I think a normal person would just keepRead More quiet. But then again, we're not dealing with normal people here.)
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

"Do you accept that the CCSS are copyright by a corporation and no, absolutely no state orRead More district can deviate from them?" :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: States aren't even required to adopt the CC standards--how can you say that they cannot deviate from them?
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 02:44 pm
...and according to this, states are allowed to deviate from the standards--although it isRead More discouraged. It does make some sense--the idea of CC standards is to have all the states adhering to the same standard. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: http://indianapublicmedia.org/stateimpact/2013/08/19/core-question-does-copyright-mean-states-cant-change-the-common-core/

Stating that the history books are anti US and pro global without any proof is very misleading. WhenRead More I was going to school we had classes about world history and separate classes about US history. So of course some textbooks about the history of the world might not mention the United States. It didn't exist yet.

I'd like to know in which year that the University of Michigan accepted so many black students thatRead More white students weren't able to get in. Are white students as resentful when an Asian syudent is accepted before them? I agree that grades count, but I'd love to see some of the grades and essays that were submitted by the elite "Student/Athletes" that won scholarships to U of M - or do they even have to submit anything except their ppg from their senior year from that predominatly blck inner city high school? How many of those have U of M rejected? Sometimes race matters, sometimes it doesn't???
winifred gray April 23, 2014 at 02:34 pm
I also believe Attorney Genereal Bill Schuette will use this decision as a basis in recognizing theRead More voter approved ban on gay marriage in Michigan - getting it overturned because it's unconstitutional. Do we really want this divisiveness rather than acceptance regarding race, sexual preference, religion, culture, economic status, color, education level, etc.? Affirmative action doesn't only affect black enrollment at U of M but for all phases of all peoples' lives.
Racer Boy April 23, 2014 at 02:56 pm
It's how a democracy works. The Supreme Court has clarified what rights the State's have. If U of MRead More wants more diversity, just lsimply ower their overall entrance standards. Maybe a 2.3 GPA would satisfy those that think personal achievement shouldn't matter. Then you would end up with a school like Wayne State University that showcases their diversity with a 4-year graduation rate of 9.7%....that's right....9.7%!!! That's what artificially achieved diversity gets you.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! I don't believe this kid is competent enough to make those decisions. Those kids need to beRead More prosecuted to the fullest and if the does judge does not agree he needs to step down.

Sorry, Autistic boy, but there are a multitude of crimes here. These so called 'friends' abused youRead More terribly ~ called 'bullying', & that alone cannot be tolerated. Then, there is animal cruelty involved, another terrible crime, plus, harassment of all kinds, leudness, & who knows what else. These 'friends' need to be charged & made aware of the seriousness of their deeds, punished accordingly & helped through proper mental councelling.

Has anyone here looked into topical pain management to fight arthritis pain? These prescription painRead More gels provide relief when and where you need it with no side effects or pills. I highly suggest looking into it. If you want to know more, please ask or look up A&R Pharmacy. They answered all my questions and got me on the path to living normally again.

I had a virus a few years ago (around age 30) that gave me symptoms like arthritis and the docsRead More treated me with arthritis meds while the virus did it's course. Anyway, it was miserable. My joints were swollen and painful and I also thought this is only supposed to happen to older people. I couldn't imagine having it as a child knowing it progressively gets worse. that has to be tough. I only dealt with it a few weeks and it went away. :-( Those kids are tough! I hope they find better treatments.
Steve Utash is still unable to distinguish reality from delusions nearly three weeks after he was attacked by a mob on Detroit's east side, his family says. (Go Fund Me photo)
RON Ostrodamus April 22, 2014 at 01:21 pm
Thugs AND racists. These are terms excusing those who drop down to the level of mob, or what I wouldRead More describe more as pack behavior found in the animal kingdom. Society has failed to deal with this problem for centuries. It just tries to define it with labels. That these monsters still exhibit the same behavior in the courtroom conclusively defines this as a hate crime. The scary part is that someday they will be turned loose to do whatever they please. A good reason to carry protection in the world these creeps inhabit.
RON Ostrodamus April 22, 2014 at 01:44 pm
Add that as "Cummings" brandished a handgun at Utash before shouting "I am going toRead More kill him" underscores the need for stop and frisk no matter the outcry that this is discriminatory in a mostly African American neighborhood. I am sick and tired of seeing the race card played when public safety for ALL is as stake. I would take being frisked over being beaten, or shot to death anytime. That sensitivity and better police training is needed in these situations is a given. I am sure all citizens living in a high crime area would prefer extended police powers to more crime.
Racer Boy April 22, 2014 at 05:57 pm
I TOTALLY agree on "stop and frisk" policies. But, all citizens living in high crime areasRead More DO NOT prefer extended Police powers. As a matter of fact, they hate the police, they refuse to "rat" on those criminals that inhabit their neighborhoods, they work to stymie crime solving. You clearly have spent no time in the jungles of Detroit or you would not have made that statement.

I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!

There are two separate issues here. The first and certainly the most obvious is security failure.Read More The second is to determine what is in the best interest of the teen, as well as the public.. He needs a psych eval, at the very least. Then again, so does most of the public.

So let me get this straight: The organization who supports this plan conducted their OWN poll andRead More found that the respondents like it? And the article suggests they had to explain the plan to each respondent? Did they explain the other 3 plans accurately? This article is just a way for this group to get some positive publicity for THEIR plan. Lets have an honest and open debate on all 4 plans and see which is best...
